This Spicy Apple Chutney recipe by chef Jamie Oliver is truly the easiest apple chutney you can make. This apple chutney is made with apples, sultanas, raisins, malt vinegar, sugar, and a blend of spices including paprika, coriander, and mixed spice.

Jamie recommends using eating apples, which work perfectly for the chutney. The spices, including paprika, coriander, and mixed spice, add just the right amount of kick, so you don’t need to add anything extra to make it spicy.

Jamie Oliver Apple Chutney Ingredients

  • 900g apples, cored and chopped
  • 225g chopped onions
  • 110g sultanas, raisins, or chopped dates
  • 15g ground coriander
  • 15g paprika
  • 15g mixed spice
  • 15g salt
  • 340g granulated sugar
  • 425ml malt vinegar

How To Make Jamie Oliver Apple Chutney

  1. Combine Ingredients: Place all the ingredients into a preserving pan. Make sure to chop your onions and apples beforehand and measure out your spices.
  2. Dissolve Sugar: Slowly bring the mixture to a boil on medium heat, stirring occasionally until the sugar dissolves completely.
  3. Simmer: Reduce the heat to low and let the mixture simmer for 1.5 to 2 hours. Stir occasionally to prevent the chutney from sticking to the pan.
  4. Check Consistency: The chutney is ready when it becomes very thick. You should be able to draw a wooden spoon across the base of the pan, leaving a channel that doesn’t fill up with liquid immediately.
  5. Jar and Store: Carefully transfer the thickened chutney into sterilized jars. Seal the jars tightly and let them cool. Store them in a cool, dark cupboard for at least two to three months before eating.
