  • 350 G Plain (All-purpose) Flour
  • 175 G Butter
  • ¼ Teaspoon Salt
  • 120 Ml Cold Water
  • A Little Beaten Egg

How To Make A Mince And Onion Pie 

  1. Make the shortcrust pastry: Combine flour and salt in a bowl. Rub in butter until it resembles breadcrumbs. Add half the water and stir until dough forms, adding more water as needed. Knead briefly, divide into two discs, wrap, and chill for 30 minutes.
  2. Make the pie filling: Fry diced onion in oil until soft and beginning to color. Add minced garlic if using. Add meat and brown. Stir in flour, herbs, salt, pepper, stock, and Worcestershire sauce. Cook for 20-30 minutes, adding more stock if needed. Let cool.
  3. Assemble and bake: Preheat oven to 180C/350F. Roll out one pastry disc and line the pie tin. Add filling and brush pastry edge with egg. Roll out the second pastry disc, cover the pie, and seal the edges. Brush with egg, make a slit in the top, and bake for 45 minutes.
