Ina Garten Chocolate Orange Cake Ingredients

  • 2 sticks unsalted butter, room temperature (plus more for the pan)
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 4 large eggs, room temperature
  • 1/4 cup orange zest (from 4 large oranges)
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour (plus 2 tablespoons for the pan)
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1/4 cup fresh orange juice
  • 3/4 cup buttermilk, room temperature
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 cups semisweet chocolate chunks

Orange Syrup Ingredients:

  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup fresh orange juice

Ganache Ingredients:

  • 8 ounces semisweet chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1 teaspoon instant coffee granules

How To Make Ina Garten Chocolate Orange Cake

  1. Prep Oven and Pan: Preheat oven to 350°F. Butter and flour a 10-inch Bundt pan.
  2. Cream Butter and Sugar: In a mixer, beat butter and sugar until fluffy, about 5 minutes.
  3. Add Eggs and Zest: Mix in eggs one at a time, then add orange zest.
  4. Prepare Mixes: In one bowl, sift flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. In another, mix orange juice, buttermilk, and vanilla.
  5. Combine and Bake: Add dry and wet mixes to the butter mixture in thirds, starting and ending with flour. Mix chocolate chunks with 2 tablespoons flour and add to batter. Pour into pan and bake for 45-55 minutes.

How To Make Orange Syrup 

In a small pot, combine 1/4 cup of granulated sugar and 1/4 cup of fresh orange juice. Next, heat the mixture over medium-low heat until the sugar dissolves completely.

How To Make Chocolate Ganache

Take 8 ounces of semisweet chocolate chips, 1/2 cup of heavy cream, and 1 teaspoon of instant coffee granules. Use a double boiler to melt these ingredients over simmering water. Stir occasionally until smooth and warm.

How To Decorte Chocolate Orange Cake

After the cake cools, drizzle the orange syrup over it. If you made the chocolate ganache, pour it on top for a glossy finish. 

Optional: sprinkle some orange zest or chocolate shavings for extra flair. Now, your cake is ready to serve.
